Welcome and congrats! I'm happy to hear you're taking a safe rider course. I've been riding for over 30 years and have taken a couple of these classes. I actually learned several things. I was very surprised.

Again, welcome!

Welcome to the forums from Middle TN and congrats on the Sporty and taking the riding class. After taking the class take it easy on the 1200. It will perform quite a bit faster than whatever they are using in the class. Find a large empty parking lot or some roads without traffic to get used to the weight and throttle differences. May want to add some crash guards on the Sporty as most new riders turn their first bike over at some point while learning.

I'm in training to teach the beginning class and starting to realize how quickly they move new riders through the exercises. I had ridden dirt bikes a good bit before taking my first class.

I am taking it a HD store through the Veterans Learn to Ride Free program. I have stopped in and believe they are using the Street 500 and 750. I did sit on the 750 and it is lighter than my bike and was easier to stand it up.

I do intend on getting the Engine Guard for it too.

My BF has been helping me and plan on using the local parking empty parking lot near my house a lot for practicing.

I appreciate the advice and insight!

Thank you!

Welcome aboard. Nice bike. I am also short, did the reach seat and I wear riding boots with a thick heal. Helps a lot. Good luck and have fun.
