Got my first Harley today!

Way to go Rob and welcome to the club. I'm 69 in another month and the 5th of January I bought my dream Sporty. I've had many, many bikes over all these years, but never a Sporty even though wanting one since the 60's as a kid watching a TV show (on a 12" BW tv) called "Then Came Bronson". Yep, I wanted a Sportster just like Jim Bronson's and to travel all around the country like he did. He rode a '69 or '70 Ironhead (prob 900 or 1000 cc) and I thought that was the most beautiful bike ever made.
BTW, I found a one owner '09 XL1200L with only 5600 miles and tons of aftermarket goodies. Like you I still go out into the garage sometimes at night just to set on her and rub her down. LOL!
Ride safe and regards, Joe.

Congrats, Rob! You didn't buy that bike in Houston by any chance, did you? I was at a dealership yesterday afternoon, and they rang the bell for a sale. First time Harley owner, 2007 Sporty. Small world ...

Sorry it took so long, but here's my pride and joy. Other than the pipes it's all stock so I have a lot I can do to it.
Hey Thanks, good to see a fellow Texan. Sadly I'm on my way to the HD store today to order a boot for the rear brake cylinder and pick up some clamps for the reservoir hoses. Ya, I owned it for 2 hours and it started leaking oil, then I found the torn brake cylinder boot while I was looking for the oil leak. I know it wasn't leaking when I looked at it because the guy had it in his garage and the garage floor was painted white. I don't blame him, stuff happens, not the end of the world just another step along the path.
Hey Joe, thanks, good to know I'm not nuts! And good to know I'm not the only one who really wanted a Sportster, or can I call it a Sportie now that I own one? I have caught a little flack from some friends about getting a Sportie, but hey, they don't own a HD at all so they can kiss my red-blooded American butt! They all ride big import cruisers, traitors, buy American, lol. I don't wanna dis their bikes, I'm sure they're good bikes, they're just not a Harley.
Hey Ed, thanks, and you might be right, but for now I'm gonna enjoy a bike I've wanted for a long time and when the time comes I'm sure I will move up. I really like the Dyna's, I like the open bike look, no fairings, no bags, no windshield. Don't ask me why, I just really like that look, maybe that's why the Sportster appealed to me so much.
