Default WTB Skid Lid Helmet

I am moving to TN at the end of the summer, and heard that skid lid helmuts are legal there. However, I heard that they are now illegal to sell. Does anyone know where I can still get one? I have two ruptured discs in my neck, and can't take the weight of a typical helmut. In my current state which is Ohio, the wearing of a helmet is optional.

If you would prefer to PM me instead with any information you have, feel free.

Curious where you heard that Skid Lid helmets are outlawed. I googled it and saw they were being outlawed in British Columbia but you can definitely buy them all over the internet and I can get them at my local dealer.

i just bought one in VA couple of weeks ago at some bike shop, not a HD dealer for like $20.

nothing to brag about, but i've been pulled over in several states that have helmet laws...and i've always have my skid lid...never really been discussed...i've yet to hear someone getting pulled over for wearing a non-DOT helmet...

Sparky, I can't actually remember where I heard that skid lids were illegal. It was quite a while ago, and I didn't think twice about it because I have always lived in a state which does not require the rider to wear a helmet. It wasn't until I bought some land in TN that I decided that I needed to start looking for a comfortable and light weight helmet.

Gonzo, I have a friend who just told me yesterday that he was on a ride with several other friends in TN. They were pulled over, and issued tickets because they were wearing non DOT certified helmets. So I guess now I am going to have to find a DOT approved helmet that I can live with.

John, I just bought a DOT flat black skid lid for $35 from my dealer. Probably could get it cheaper online but I wanted to try it on and was lucky I did b/c I needed a large versus an XL for all my other helmets. Think I had to downsize because it's so short that it rests on the crown of my head.

I also have a Shoei half helmet and the skid lid is definitely lower profile that the Shoei. I think Oultaw DOT helmets are even thinner but no one in my area stocks them.

wow, thx for the info...i rode from CT to FL for Daytona Bike Week last month...got pulled over 4X (me and buddies) for speeding...not once was there any mention about DOT helmets...we all had skid lids...CT, NY, NJ, DE, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL - 10 states in all, got pulled over in VA, NC, SC & GA, SC is the only one with no helmet law...CT and DE also have no helmet laws.

TN must be stricter...not pushing my luck!
