A genuine set of CVO badges can only be purchaed with proof of both VIN and registration of the CVO model you are purchasing for. This goes for both in store and online dealers. Only other option is to buy on eBay, Craigslist or classified ads or find someone who removed them from their CVO.
Note: Some may claim they have purchaed them direct at a dealer and that very well could have been the case over a year ago, that is no longer the case today. Furthermore, if you are able to purchase them online from a Harley dealer you may be able add them to your cart and checkout, but I can guarantee that online Harley parts dealer will contact you prior to ordering and mailing them to you.
Secondly, if you see a set that looks like a genuine CVO badge it is a reproduction, period. Not to say it's not a good reproduction, but it's a reproduction none the less.
I went through this whole process last year, I know what I'm talking about. In addition, I ordered from 3 different reproduction sites and have yet to see a set of CVO badges that look as clean as a genuine HD pair.
If you don't believe me, go through the dealer in person , go through an online dealer like Surdyke or Utah Harley or try to buy a set of repos....you'll see what I'm talking about.
I know it sounds silly that we are talking about badges, but trust me, this is the case. Harley has truly locked down CVO parts to this extent, especially the badges.
