Default speedo cluster going bad after jumping dead battery

I've had this happen twice now. The first time I had a dead battery I jumped the battery and my entire intrument cluster went bad. Now for the second time I had a dead battery and I put the charger on it for a while and cranked it and it started the first time and then when I tried again it wouldn't crank so I slow charged the battery and it wasn't any good so I bought a brand new battery, charged it and when I cranked the bike it started fine but the odometer, miles and headlight don't work. Has anyone had this type of problem? Thanks for any help!

Default RE: speedo cluster going bad after jumping dead battery

I have never had this problem. What happened the first time/ how was it fixed? I would first suggest checking the fuses at the back of the airbox area under the cover, just in front of the seat. You may have overloaded one. Other than that?????????????????????????
