Default v-rod caught fire

A friend of mine has a 09 V-rod. He keeps it in a storage garage that is locked and has no electricity in it, and the only thing in the garage it the bike. It looks like the bike caught fire under the seat, spread to the rear fender, caught the whole cover on fire and spread to the front fender and tire. Has anyone here heard of this happening to any other V-rods? Since the bike isn't even a year old, Harley shouldn't Harley cover this? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the battery went. Probably not covered by HD, but how about insurance?

Where it looks like the fire started isn't close to the battery, and the insurance co. is claiming it was vandalism and not covered under the policy. (It is a common practice with insurance co. here in Mexico).

My friend uses the bike two or three times a week, so I don't think it was a mouse looking for a home. The strange thing is it burned the underside of the seat, but the top of the seat didn't have much damage.

They should have a fire investigator look at the bike before any determination is made. I would contact the local fire marshall to find out who they use! I manage a storage facility and we have people who store items in the unit that have been involved in these types of fires. Yesterday they were there looking at a quad that burned to the ground for no reason.
