Default V-Rod reliability

What is the general consensus on V-Rod reliability? Any years to avoid? Any problems to watch for or failures to expect?

Also, can a reasonably handy owner do his own maintenance?

Reliability - The best HD has to offer
Years to Avoid - None
Problems/Failures - Some/but minor. Nothing that can't be fixed by you.

There was a fuel flange problem in some of the 02s and 03s. Other than that, rock solid.

And if you're not sure what a fuel flange is, it's part of the pump assembly that drops into the tank. It's removable by you and osn't that hard to fix...and that's only if it hasn't been changed or if it goes bad.

What about valve adjustments? What's the frequency? Can an owner do it?

Depends on how skilled you are I would suggest at this point you aquire a service manual to see what is involved.
