Default Looking to buy my first VRod - need opinions

Greetings.

Been riding since 4th grade, but all jap bikes. Decided I need a Harley - midlife crisis, divorce, etc.

Anyway, I started looking for a low mileage 2003 anniversary VRod. What are everyone's thoughts on these?

I have also recently expanded my search to include other years. In fact, below is a link to a 04 that I really like. However, the eBay seller seems to have some issues (American Classic Motors), and I would not be able to go see the bike and "kick the tires"before purchase. I am concerned that the bike was wrecked and rebuilt, or something like that, although there is no indication that this has happened. Any advice?

What about purchasing a new one - any idea what price range I would be looking at?

Many thanks in advance for you opinions.

Good morning. From my research thus far it seems these bikes are pretty solid. There are a # of changes throughout the years as well including fuel tank size.
You are doing the right thing by asking around. There are lots of nice pre-owned bikes out there to buy, take your time while searching.

I myself have been riding a while and have had all Jap bikes too.

Good Luck,

DD

If you keep looking you will find many V Rods for sale cheap. I have seen some priced at crazy low prices. You just need to have cash ready, and be ready to jump quick when you find one.

12K for a B seems a little high to me, although it does have very low miles. I see your point though, 720 miles seems low. I had that on my bike before the first month was over. It could be because of a number of things but salvage could be one of them. You should do a vehicle history report. The V.I.N. is listed in the auction, I would do that if I considered buying this bike. I'm not saying there is a problem with this bike, just cover your *** and make sure everything is on the up and up.

Last bike I bought I checked through CARFAX. I would think that most V.I.N. Check services can do motorcycles as well. When all vehicles went to 17 digit V.I.N.s it made it a whole lot easier for places to check.

I have an 03 Aniv A model and it rocks! Never a problem whatsoever. I am familiar with American Classic. Actually a pretty good outfit. Would be interested in why you have this perception of them. They deal primarily in used HD's & some custom bikes and aftermarket parts. If you live near central PA my bike is for sale as I can't keep two. e-mail me if interested as you will not find a nicer chromed out A model at this price.

Call around to dealers. The #1 bike they have in old inventory are v-rods. They did not sell like the moco thought they would and there are dealers around with brand new 04,05,06, and 07.

now for my 2c buy the 08 night rod. what a bike! limited slip clutch, ABS, badazz looking. but its easy for me to spend your money aint it!

good luck

Don't do what?

As for ACM, there is some nutty feedback, including feedbak they left for others. Plus, a lot of mutually withdrawn. While I want a bike with low miles, i always get nervous about the odometer being rolled back, salvage, etc. Where has this bike been with only 700+ miles on it?

Will CarFax be able to see if it is a salvage or been in a wreck?
