RE: Vrod as touring bike
My nephew has a Street Rod and he rode it on our trip to Tennessee and back this spring. We also made several trips to Northern Michigan this summer and many weekendrides of 2 and 300 miles, and he has no complaints. He's 25 and I believe that makes a big difference. I rode it for about a half hour and my neck and shoulders were hurting. I'm 55 and couldn't handle the riding position. I was very impressed with the machine, though. Very powerful motorcycle and handled very well. Quite smooth I might add.

Go for it.
I went all the way to Holland from Greece with my V Rod.
Had two huge bags I could actually fit 2 dead bodys in them.
For smaller distances (like 3 day rides) I use a small bag on the rear that is pretty comfortable and holds a lot of stuff inside.
I ll look for pictures eventually.
I have a windshield witch improves things just a little bit.
