Default 2006 used Street Rod? What to look for?

Hi Folks. Kind of a Harley newbie here and had rented a 2013 Nightrod from local HD dealership and liked how the engine was but did not like the forward set footpegs, which turned into an extremely uncomfortable seating position for me with no support for thighs (32-inches inseam and 6ft tall) and although excellent engine was tiring for a ride. Then started reading about the 2006-07 Street Rod which had mid-set pegs and seems interesting.

Started looking for 2006-07 and V-Rod and found one near NC. I would like your opinions on this please. It is a 2006 model with under 10k miles. History unknown. Coming to about $7.5 to me including shipping and taxes. Attaching a few pics for reference.

What do you think? Is the 2006 Street Rod a good buy? Any recommendations on what to get it checked for and any improvements, and maintenance tips will be highly appreciated. Going to pull the trigger on it tomorrow and get it shipped.

That is an "R" model. It is the sport version of the V-rod and was only made for 2 years. It has a shorter wheel base and sits higher. Probably the best handling V-Rod.

Correct and thanks! Seems so. I read about it. Is it recommended for that price or should I just go and try to get a used 2005 or something Fat Boy for around the same price?

Seems reasonable to me considering the extra cost of shipping. Buy it, the V-Rod platform is one bad mother focker. You'll run circles around that Fatboy and out handle it too.

Was going to get it and the called the dealer today (Freedom Cycles, NC) and those guys asked for a copy of debit card and Driver's License. Sent the DL and said that I am not comfortable sending the debit card and will call and pay them over the phone this morning and they agreed. Now, there was a truck coming through this morning from uShip which was supposed to pick up within the hour. Got excited, accepted the quote (knew the guy, from before) and paid uShip. I know call Freedom Cycles,NC to pay and the guy is oh ummm...let me call my finance manager and he will give you a call back. He calls me back, saying that hey Mr.Blue, we cannot release the vehicle and as per NC law, you have to sign the title as well and we need the funds released before we cna release the vehicle. I said I can pay right with a debit card, and then they are like , well, we need to fedex you the title then you sign back and send it us, and only when we get back, we can release it and blah blah. I am wtf??? you tell me this now??? And we have been talking for over a week. When we spoke even until yesterday, the salesman was like, well yes, we can ship to you as long as you paid for it, the vehicle is yours and the paperwork we can do over the fedex.

Has anyone any experience with Freedom Cycles, NC? Sounds like they are may back-tracking so that they could find a better deal on the weekend I guess. Very sneaky to me at least. I will have to run around uShip and try to get my money back, but with folks like these, I think I dodged a bullet. Firstly, buying a bike online is something which I hadn't done before myself and now a man goes back on his word, and doesn't disclose full info. Now that was something which is............

I did buy it though, as I liked it and there is no other like it as it was a limited production run from 2006-07. And I wanted a V-Rod with factory mid-mounted pegs. I rode a 2013 V-Rod Nightrod for a couple days and loved the engine very much but the forward set pegs on the low riding position did not give my thighs enough support and legs were strained. This one is a great alternative while still keeping that awesome v-rod shape and engine. Just waiting for the paperwork, title etc to be completed. Sent my payment and fingers crossed. Once that is done, hopefully I can find a truck next week to get it to me. Lets hope for the best.

I will update the thread once I get it. Since its an old 2006 model, will need help with what are things that I need to check, swap out, and any improvements that are suggested. Yours is a cool bike by the way. Seems to be well taken care of .

After a long an painful purchasing process, finally got it home today. Since I bought it sight unseen, except for the pictures and a short video clip, need some advise in bringing it up to ship-shape. A few things I would need help and appreciate any advise.

** The bike has about 9300 hundred miles on it and came with only one key. The dealers seems to changed both the front and rear tires to Dunlop Promax (or something like that). And it seemingly had an oil change as per the dealer.

1.) What are the things that I should the mechanic or the HD dealership to check for. Woodstock Harley Davidson in Woodstock, IL is the closest to me but heard several horror stories about them about their service department so a bit apprehensive. Heard good reviews about an independent workshop called Joe Mama's in Franklin Park, IL. Planning to take it there next weekend.

2.) In the short ride that I had around the block (haven't received the title yet so not road worthy currently for about a week), and the engine seemed noisy with some valve chatter. Also, the guy seemed to have put some aftermarket slip ons (pics below) which were loud (not in good Harley'esque way) so will looking for suggestion on some good exhaust system or slip, which are not too loud, but give a nice Harley rumble and growl.

3.) Any upgrades that can be done to the brakes, brake lines, LED turn signals, switchgear, replacing those cheapo sticky rubber grips, etc? Also, the clutch seems to be pretty hard. I had rented a 2013 Night Rod a few weeks back and the clutch was way smoother. Is this normal for the 2006 Street Rods ?

4.) Engine or performance upgrades? Or not worth it?

5.) And this one is dumb, but where the heck do you screw on the number plate in the backside? Seems like this bike shipped without a number plate holder.

6.) And last but not the least, going by the pictures, what do you think of this yellow step-child?
