IIRC there was an issue with early TC cranks. Not sure if it continued into the later ones but probably could.. There was a guy that worked for one of the big three auto corps that had an early crank fail at about 30 to 40K. He was able to get the rods off the cranks and the outer race was gone. He took it to the QA lab and cross sectioned and etched the metal. He had it encased in resin and brought to the V-Twin Expo The etching showed that the hardening was uneven and thin where the bearing failed.
There have been a number of crank failures in the early cranks (not a pandemic.. ) but a few.. They seem to occur in the 30 to 40 k miles range.. I guess it's about the time the hard surface fractures and the bearing fails..
