Default Rebuilt Fuel tank quick disconnect. Now won't run

2007 softail springer sat for 5+ years.

Drained tanks, and added new fuel in gas tank and a wee shot of starting fluid and she started instantly and ran fine.

I decided to pull off the quick disconnect on the left bottom of the fuel tank to clean it, and it had bad leaky O Rings and so bought a rebuild kit and the Fuel Tool Check valve rebuild kit MC 400. Replaced both orings, spring and valve. It doesn't leak any more and the quick disconnect works well. When I remove the quick disconnect there is good pressure I think because a small amount of fuel sprays out under pressure. Seems to be ok.

When I try to start the bike now after the quick disconnect rebuild it is getting no fuel to the engine. If I shoot starter fluid in, it instantly starts but dies. Clearly no fuel.
Ideas?

Not sure what I did that caused this?

Well go back and check what you did. I guess it's possible that the replacement parts don't quite work.. I'd put the old valve back in if it looks good.

One thing you can try is holding up on the bottom of the fuel line. See if it starts..

There is a small O-ring up inside the tank fitting. Maybe it got cocked and is blocking the fuel. Hard to see without removing the tank so you can flip it upside down…….

If you pop it apart under pressure, it tends to dislodge o-ring. Either let it sit overnight or pull fuel pump fuse and run it till it quits before removing disconnecte.

Push it up into the tank real hard before popping the outer ring when putting it back in. You have to compress the new O ring to get the fitting to properly seat.
