first time i did cams i didn't use the pins. i also did not remove the pump. however, i did loosen the 4 bolts then turned the rear wheel to make sure it was aligned the torqued to spec.

 

I don't recall roll /alignment pins on the camplate. So theoretically, the bolts which are not tight tolerances, could leave the plate to move slightly when reinstalled. that said, and Max stated,it would be easy to do the loosen bolts, turn the engine by hand and tighten again to be sure it finds its happy place.
