S&S reed valve for 124TC build
Hi Everyone,
Building a 124 TC bottom to top.
Included with the Crankcase was a crankcase breather reed valve?
I’ve heard mixed reviews on this part.
Can some of the builders out there please explain, so that I can make an informed decision as to fit or not to fit?
It should also be noted that I’ll be using the TC3 S&S oil pump which is compatible with the reed valve.
Best regards

Not a pro builder but I have built a few
I assume it came with new S&S cases?
If you are using Harley rocker boxes and breathers, then the the S&S reed valve is not necessary. I would leave it out. A solution in search of a problem.
Harley breathers are easily replaceable. No moving hard parts.

If using Harley breathers, adding the reed valve just adds another check valve in line before your stock Harley breathers, which are also basically check valves. On a TC, I think in the rocker boxes is a better location than crankcase to cam chest.
I have built a 117" TC on S&S cases before, using stock Harley breathers and without reed valve. Works just fine.
Run your head breather tubes to atmos

SE pump. At that time the S&S pump did not yet exist, i believe, maybe10 years ago. I checked clearance behind pump to reed valve. There is a spring washer that goes between.
I read their reasoning for them but had no issues without, and having functioning stock breathers.
