Any tips for DIY pressing out the cams for new rear tensioners pad replacement? I saw a guy beat one out with a socket and a hammer but idk what to think about that. I got the rear on off but no way its going back on without a tool or pressing cams

1. You can take it to a shop and pay the min labor rate for bench work. May be $30 depending on who.
2. You can try the oven method. Watch You Tube video's for this.
3. Buy a small Harbor Freight Arbor or Hydraulic Press. It will pay for itself.
It's really a light press, maybe only .005" but please don't take a hammer to it.
4. If you're very clever and have a long travel bench vice you can "socket press" it out with an extra set of hands.

Oven and freezer works great, both for disassembly and putting it back together.

Well I finally have new Torrington inner bearings, tensioner pads and associated seals with the push rod removal through the rocker box process. Thanks for everyone who commented and helped out. I started an ape hanger install in the midst of this so I haven't been able to check my work and start the bike yet. I'll dive into the manual and see what the process is for adding oil back and starting. I'll post the ape install somewhere when complete. Thanks again. Until next time......

Remove cam cover and inspect Tensioners with pictures or no deal. But that is just me.

Another question, do I need to find TDC (top dead center) and align sprockets before I remove them and the chain to pull the cam plate , or just make sure they align during reassembly. At any rate do I need to worry with TDC we aligning sprockets on reassembly? Somewhere I saw do TDC on the rear cylinder and see the sprocket to align on reassembly and you are good.

I have the service manual but flipping through it last night I had some trouble following what it was saying. Seems like some information wasn't there and was in other areas. I'm sure I'm just not acclimated to the book yet.

The out tensioner looked pretty good.
