Used Purchase: Dealer Inspection
#31
You are purchasing a bike HD dealers will not even work on. All they want is you to purchase it and go away.
They will tell what ever it takes for you to sign on the line. Then take it and anything else they get you to purchase and show you the door.
I do not understand anyone buying a bike the dealer will not even support.

LOL - Not everyone is dependent on a dealer.

Lose something to get something?
The early TC with link chain wore and never stopped wearing shoes till they were replaced or broke.
The first generation of roller chains on the TC did the the same since shoe was to thin to allow rollers to roll. The hydraulic plunger broke through the center of the shoe.
What generation or year of the TC did Harley get the shoes thick enough to let chain rollers roll and stop wearing?
Link chain (some call silent). And cavitatation from high RPM. Even with reasable RPM, wear never stops.
First generation roller chains or either a inner link chain on a hydralic conversion. Not sure?
If thick enough, with a roller chain, rollers roll and wear stops.Rolle chain on bike.
Link chain. My Harley at 30,000. There still in there at 50,000. links have a orange peel bumpy face. Cuts down cavitation I think. My shoes were smooth.

If you want roller chain on the cams you can install a 2007 up OEM cam plate and oil pump, together with "conversion cams". That's a very economical option, only drawback is that the cam selection is limited to Andrews, Feuling and Woods. Which isn't really that much of a drawback.
That's not an economic option on an 05 if one is concerned with cost to replaces the tensioners.
I'm wondering what hydraulic tensioner would come with it. Would it be the third style I show?
Just the other day, a USER showed his Tour which had that second shoe that the piston breaks thru .

Max ....This was my point ... Might have been generalizing a bit and I was focusing on the touring editions

The picture you show of a failed tensioner, is the only 1 of 2 I've seen on the internet. The other cam out of a CVO that most likely had the stock heavy springs in a 110.
Inner tensioner has about 55000 miles on it the out about 48000. About 35000 was with heavy valve springs.
FWIW Indian uses silent chain and it drives 3 cams..

Tires are a wash when compare cost of tire to mileage. Front end is better but still need to be setup and the 14-up lose 1 inch of travel.. 6 gallon tank is nice if you got a big bladder. The tranny has one more speed but shifts like crap. I call it the "clunk drive"

Well I picked the bike up today. The dealer put on a new front tire, 3hole fluid change, replaced the throttle cables, clutch cable and oil dip stick.
I don’t hear a thing when I ride as far as cam tensioner issues but the exhaust is super loud so idk if I even would.
I’ll be ordering the service manual and cam tensioner kit to do myself. I’ll post pics along the way here soon as it happens.
