The Motion Pro tool is the slickest tool, a bit pricey at $45 for a one time use but if the OP is tired of losing knuckle skin, might be worth it.

It's important that the upper tube is seated correctly in the head. Install the o ring in the head, not on the tube, and use assembly lube or oil on the o ring. Then push the tube up until you feel it seat in the o ring. I use a flat blade screwdriver to push up against the lip on the tube.

Once the upper tube is seated I find the easiest way is to simply use both hands and push the collar down with my fingertips and push the clip in with my thumbs.

Already got plenty of help from the experts. So just let me say welcome Sandi.

Hope you continue to enjoy your ride here with us on the HDFORUM.

Only as a suggestion, but very important, create a signature line similar to mine on your bike with year, model, and all the letters Harley assigned to the bike. It will appear at bottom of your post.

You can also add a favorite picture to the signature line.

Doing this will be helpful if you ask a question or to someone asking a question. All Harleys aren't the same with many changes and variations over the years.

Also as a suggestion make, your next new post over in the new member welcome area to say hello.

Make sure that you removed the original O rings from the heads.
