There’s a lot of early 2000’s for sale right now around me. There are tradeoffs with most of them, but my preference would probably be a 2007+. Hydraulic cam chain tensioners and six speed.

My 07 WG has been great except for the pulley bolts backing out and shearing off

Don't know what the OP has for a budget or what he is looking for but 2002 was the best of the early models; MMI replaced by Dephi, forged crank, Timken left side bearing. If I was looking for any model that year, I would be looking at the purchase as a "project", IAW, a bike with some issues. If a later model was the target, '09 up touring gets the frame " upgrades and exhaust converted to cross under, and six gallon tank. I forget which model year the final drive ratio was changed; earlier years was too "tall".

Dealers in my area are over flowing with used bikes; just have to do the homework, know what one is willing to pay, deal hard and stick to the budget; sooner or later, one will get the deal they are looking for.

Also depends on what you are looking for. Softail ,Touring ect.
2007 was a great year for Touring line. The TC96 became standard as did the 6 speed and ACR. Put 75,000 on my 07 trouble free.

After that 2009 and up the new frame a big jump and major improvement.
The 2011 ABS standard 103 Standard on RGU an add on option the the rest 2012 standard on all touring line
2014. Wet head 49MM front end all good.

If you can afford it. Try to find a ride with the 103" motor.. You won't regret it...

See if the guy you’re buying the bike from will let you tear the cam cover off so you can measure the run out, ….that would be great if dealers let you do that.
