I remember way back when, a company called metric mechanics had an article where they showed their “anti-polish” where they machined a pattern to the surface of the ports which would create “surface turbulence” at the interface, and the overall flow was greatly improve.

S&S is right, the stock TB is fine with the 110” + 585 combo you presently have. If you bolt on SE 110 heads the compression will take a beating as they have 95cc chambers. Would do more harm than good. Those heads would need some money put into them to make them effective IMO.

You’ll probably end up in the 105hp neighborhood as-is. Proper headwork and throttle body might pump it up closer to 120. Figure around $2,000 to do it. Lotta reputable outfits out there like Mega-flo, Zippers, Ward, Baisley, Hammer Performance, the list goes on.

Thanks for the comment. I've contacted a couple of the CNC port services on that list and waiting for a call back. Will see what they say. I would like to avoid the expense of having to change the throttle body and air breather.

I'm still wondering about the guts in the basement and if adding the additional horsepower you mentioned will cause catastrophic failure of the crankshaft assembly.

Build it, get it tuned, ride it and don't beat on it and the crank will probably hold up.

Adding a couple of head porters for consideration; HD Street Performance, Larry's Motorcycle/Machine AKA WFO Larry, Fuel Moto and Hillside Cycles. All have reputation for quality work and customer service and might be more cost effective than say Baisley and crowd. Worth more phone calls.

BTW, nothing special about 103 heads; any TC head wil do if being ported. Many look for the '06 up heads because the were modifed by the MoCo and flow better than the early heads. '05 up introduced beehive springs and 7mm valves.

Yes, good additions. BTW I don't know if Don is still doing heads or not. I called him last winter and he was doing contract work for an aerospace outfit. Hopefully he gets back to it, guy knows a thing or two.

Yeah, I recall that he stopped or slowed down to do some contract work for Boeing, so you might be right. Don has done a few sets of heads for me but the last was for my current 98" motor a few years back. I haven't seen him posting on HTT in a while; he does know a thing or two.

Maybe he’s been working on Boeing software so they don’t nose dive to smithereens. That CEO should be hung by his nuts

Default Cupping Sound From the Trhottle Body

I've heard it described as "cupping", it sounds like thumping on a coconut a little. Is it reversion due to overlap or is it gasping air??? Doesn't sound like something is hitting where it shouldn't. Goes away once you get into the power band. I should have recorded with the air cleaner off as it is more distinct. May do that tomorrow.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Performed a leak down test and pulled 2-4% so that's a win. Makes me feel a little better about the build.

The noise seems to be normal as many have said so I can live with that. Going to spend a little extra and go with Ward for the head work. Also planning on either the 55/58mm or the 58mm TB from HPI.
