02FX,have you owned and ridden this bike for those 36K miles? The rear runs hotter and typically a llttel leaner than the front and a leaking guide seal could explain a heavier carbon buildup on one piston but that rear cylinder should not be that clean after 36K miles. Very odd I think and I don't have any explanation. Maybe someone else can offer an explanation but I got nothing; maybe the smart guys can chime in.

The only ways that rear cylinder could be that clean is if it was just replaced or it's not running on that cylinder.

djl/max this is the history of my 2002 dyna. I bought it brand new in 2002. After 600 miles I put in a cam propipe mikuni carburetor and ignition Dyna 2000 which I took out long story short wasn't working right. A few weeks ago the rear cylinder spark plug blew out taking all the threads with it. I drove the bike home 10 miles front cylinder only, rear spark plug out. Can that have something to do with the situation I don't think so. I'm not a harley technician. Just an enthusiast typical home garage mechanic. I did do a compression test before tear down both cylinders 150 psi. I can guarantee the heads have never been off this motorcycle.

That's why I asked if 02FX had owned and ridden the bike for those 36K miles. Surely 02FX would have noticed it running on one cylinder? Weird huh?

Interesting. So running the bike for 10 miles without a plug cleaned the piston.. Pistons don't ever look that clean with what 32000 miles on it..

If you end up going with the 510, I'd be interested in what the exhaust port looks like with Bean's porting. 02 heads have small exhaust ports in them. I'd expect the port to be kept small or an anti reversion step left in the port.

No really, just more of an a$$hole.

Yeah the mention of a ring mid cylinder kinda sound like the bike sat at one time..

Max/djl I really couldn't get a picture inside the cylinder it was difficult to take. But I have pictures of the cylinder heads they both look exact with some carbon on them especially exhaust ports. Big boys received my package he's opening it tonight. I will have more answers for you tomorrow when I call him. I will ask if the cylinder ware is normal or what he thinks and keep you posted.djl I am beyond puzzled with the condition of that rear piston. I've done rebuilds on shovel heads, and four cylinder inline metrics, and the Pistons always look the same.
