Default Stolen Road King Engine Numbers - need help!

I got my 2002 Road King stolen last July and saw the engine on Facebook for sale so went to look at it with my title and there is no engine number on the title. How do I prove it’s mine? How do you cross reference the vin with the engine number? Please help it’s for sale right now.

The Vin of your bike that's on your ownership is on the frame and is the same number that's on the engine block, at least it is on mine. Hope this helps.

Did the Insurance pay you out for the bike? If so then it's the Insurance company's engine. Either way, if it turns out to be yours, notify the police.

Congrats on your first post. If it is, indeed, your stolen engine, going there with the ownership in hand, and checking out the number of the engine against your paperwork, while the potential thief stands beside you watching you do that could be awkward to say the least, lol

You saw an engine for sale on Facebook, what makes you so sure it's yours? They all look alike, or were there some special identifying accessories, or add ons?

Good luck, Jim

Breakdown of the engine number Harley Davidson

The Harley Davidson engine number has 10 characters and is stamped onto the engine block, on the left. There is a star at the left and right of the sequence of characters.

The engine number can be derived from the VIN. It is the:

5th – 6th character of the VIN = model designation (e.g. DJ)

7th character of the VIN Harley Davidson = engine type (e.g. L)

10th character of the VIN = model year

12th to 17th characters of the VIN = serial number

I know it’s mine from the shift linkage that I had Powdercoated a hammered grey and black, very distinct, and the air intake also very distinct. Turns out it was mine and I can’t get the joplin police to help me get it back after repeated calls they just don’t seem to care to help.
