Default 88” cam swap

So I’m planning out my engine upgrades for my 06 dyna 88”. I’ve seen a lot of good things about the andrews 48h cam and was thinking of going with that. I want to later down the line upgrade the jugs to a 95”. Would the 48h still be a good match with that?

Also what other things should I upgrade while I’m in there? I heard about adjustable pushrods and cam plate, anything else?

Majority of my riding is spent in the 2500-4000 rpm range as well, occasionally 2 up.

Also the bike was bought with true dual python exhaust and has a SE backplate and air cleaner with the stock cover

The 48 will work well also in a 95" engine, just make sure to use pistons that give a suitable compression for that cam.

Your 06 Dyna already has the hydraulic cam tensioners so no need to change cam plate. But you should replace the inner cam bearings to the torrington version.

If it has any miles id do inner and out cam bearings and lifters while open.

95" cammed and ported is a great bike. Id consider waiting. Save money by not using adjustable pushrods and do 95". But it is easy when not my time and money.

You can pull off the rocker covers n rockers, and get the pushrods out that way to save ya some money. If you have a tick in the top end put in some rocker lockers while in there.

The stock pushrods can only be reused if the cams have stock base circle diameter. I don't know if the 48's have that, I know my Andrews 55 cams do not.

48 base circle is .020" smaller than stock. Some retain stock pushrods with the 48s and some get some valve train rattle around 2800-3000 rpms and some don't. Dealer's choice IMHO but considering factory tolerances, if funds are available, adjustable pushrods can be adjusted to address valve train noise. A set of Johnson Hy-Lifts from WFO Larry should also be on the parts list. If the OP waits to increase displacement, using a .030" head gasket will take up the .010" diffefence in base circle with stock pushrods. Why stop at 95" when 98" is available for the same cost?

So you’re saying that if I do the displacement change and go with a .030 gasket the stock pushrods can be reused? Would the 48 still be good with the 98” like it is with the 95?

The "ticking" is pretty subjective depending on the sensitivity of the listener but having listened to many stock and modified Harley vtwins, I have to say no; all twin cams do not tick. Rocker Lockers are desinged to solve a specific problem which is not valve train lash but is the rocker shaft bolts rotating in the support plate boss. To to the Rocker Locker website to undersstand the problem and then check your rocker shaft bolts for witness marks of the rotation; no marks, no Rocker Lockers but if the marks are there, Rocker Lockers will solve that problem.

Yes that is what I am saying. Other cam choices notwithstanding, the 48 will work fine in a 98" configuration; stick with flat top pistons.
