That was with my Woods W8 build..83" Evo. 96/96.. Just goes to show what using the power you create can do.. The crank pin was the weakest link.. BUT THE FILTER DID IT'S JOB ... YES FRAM..!!!
Like many, I used a cereal box/12 pack pop type cardboard too..UNTIL someone in the oil forum shared his tip.
an "articulated" cardboard funnel comes with every filter.
No more rootin' around in the recycle bin for cardboard
the other tip I learned here that helped minimize mess, is punching a hole in the filter
I was a little surprised, from this group, that the remote mounted filter in post #9 did not draw any comments; definitely "no muss, no fuss" filter change and increases oil volume a few ounces and, JMHO, but I think it's pretty cool.

Yeah they are kinda cool until the bracket breaks... Then it drags on the ground until it wears a hole in the filter.. Tucked it up so it could be loaded on the tow truck.. Had to dodge the oil while trying to get ahead of Butch to get him to pull over..

Without any text I wasn't sure what you were trying to accomplish in post #9.. I never saw the remote filter.. But now that you bring it up I really don't see the necessity of the cost and can agree with Max.. How many times have we created issues by changing the stock way anything works on our bikes??
Plus doesn't have it out front actually help to cool the oil a little, I'm sure it's not a lot but it's got to do something..

Max, surely you don't think that I didn't think of that possibility? Thw bracket that came with the "kit" did not fit my '05 FLHT, too old and I knew the bracket would require some re-fabrication to fit. I cut, modified and welded so it would fit; I would never say never but don't think it's going to break. Where were you and 98HRFB when I posted? That was the only reason I brought it up again; just thought it odd that the post didn't draw comments, maybe even some snarky ones; oooops, I guess it did. As for cost. necessity, etc. I think I am in good company in that regard.
I liked it enough to make the same mod to my softail and also had to modify and re-fab Dan's bracket. If I lose it on the highway some day, I will post pictures; I do have roadside assistance.:icon-wink:

Yeah Butch was all pissed off. The bracket only lasted about 150000 miles.. The 61 Pan only has 360000 on it.
