Default Leaking Pushrod after Cams

Good afternoon.

2014 Street Glide Spec. TC 103. Wood 777. 19k miles.

Installed cams. The 777 is a step towards a 110 big bore with FM level B heads.

I swapped cams recently and now have a leaking pushrod tube. it appears to be at the point where the Tappet block and cover meet on the exhaust pushrod of the rear cylinder.

Note - this is the first time I’ve done this.

With cams new S&S plate, tappets, quickie pushrods, new Tappet blocks, and FC3 oil pump. All new o rings and gaskets. Paid close attention to torque specs and sequence.

It’s been cold so initially several short and long idle tests. Zero leaks anywhere. It was warm enough to test ride for about an hour yesterday. Leaked enough to pool maybe 2 tablespoons worth of oil on case. The bike ran well otherwise. Have idled since. No additional leaking.

I don’t drink anymore so that’s not it

I know to check the o rings for damage or misalignment. I will do so. I did remove the air intake for install but have not checked inside for uncommon oil. The breaker vents into the air cleaner.

I have the electronic HD level/ temp reading dipstick. It indicates oil level is high. I did not add oil with or since cam work.

QUESTIONS please.

With the new oil pump and more consistent oil pressure, could too much oil in the system now cause a tube leak?

Is there anything else I should check?

Please note the bike ran perfectly with zero issues before and after the cams. Starts easily, idles perfectly, runs great.

I appreciate any insight.

thank you.

More than likely one of the O rings got a little nick or wasn't seated correctly; happened to me this season with one tube slowly started to weep then drip a bit more after replacing lifters last winter. It's on the winter 'to do' list. I run an S&S pump/plate/cams/lifters/pushrods in a 110", all was fine prior - just not correct work on my side I assume.

Oil pressure shouldn't be an issue in the tubes. Pull it down and check it out. Pretty much has to be an o ring or tube not seated correctly.

Is oil dripping out of the air cleaner? Shouldn't be routed in there anyway. Just going to carbon the crap out of the pistons/combustion chamber.

Default Thank you

Thank you all. I was headed toward a nicked o-ring, but eliminating oil pressure as a cause helps. The o rings are the most logical source.

It’s been said a million times before I’m sure, but those clips are a bitch. Watching videos and doing it the first time are two different things. I think I have it down now, but I could have easily nicked or badly seated a ring.

thanks again for the confirmation and quick response.

Mike

I pinched the bottom O ring when I did my cams last year, no damage to it. Popped off the locker and got it right.
