Hello, I just recently purchased a 2008 Street glide with 35k miles and noticed a leak in between the cylinders at the base. It’s not bad, but it’s seeping. When I went for a ride this afternoon I checked it again and I could see minor bubbling from the front cylinder. My question is do I need to address this right away or monitor it and check my oil. Like I said it was minor seeping but I’ve never had a twin cam that’s done this. Thanks for any input

 

If you're seeing bubbling while the bike is running I would get that addressed ASAP.

If it were just a weep/ getting the engine's finish wet and oily-grimey, I could understand running it. But to see bubbling coming from base of a cylinder could mean a loose or broken cylinder/ head bolt. Not fixing that right away can and will lead to bigger, more expensive fixes.

 

I saw a very slight bubble no bigger then a pin ***** when I shut it off right in the middle between both cylinders. And slight wetness on the upper case bolt cause it must have ran down. I just put synthetic oil in it as well which probably didn’t help if it already had this issue

 

I’ve read you can clean up the area and use permatex windshield sealant to stop it… but idk if I’m willing to try that.

 

There is also not allot of info on stock twin cams with this problem, I’ve had several bikes, all twin cams and never had a leak at the base so idk.

 

Well, it's not going to get better only worse.
A year ago I had just a very slight base leak, I pulled her into my garage and began tearing her apart. 2 days later all fixed and it wasn't a bad job.

Don't put things off, things only get worse over time. DON'T use band aid fixes.

So it was a easy job? Did you have to disassemble the pistons as well? Not finding a lot of info. I do have a manual downloaded and have been reading it over. I know the basics just not sure if I want to tackle this.

 

If you're at all mechanically inclined, it is not too difficult. Patience, attention to detail and just a couple special tools and your manual.

 

I've had a couple leak on performance motors with some miles one them 40-50K.. HD used to use Buna O rings on the cylinder base. Go to viton.. Also do the O rings for oil return in Viton..
