IIRC, the '07 up ring gear is a press fit; never done it myself but apparently it can be replaced and it doesn't look that hard. Check out the linked thread from 2013 and the link to the Evolution replacement. As has been said, shipping cost coud be prohibitive and a locally or regionally procured used clutch basket with ring gear would probably be the most cost effecitve solution but if nothing is available, replacing the ring gear is possible.

IIRC, '07 and up are the same; it should fit. Check the link from Drag specialties English catalog. Search results for "2017 Harley Davidson starter ring gear". Same part number as the item shown in the Swedish Drag catalog. https://www.dragspecialties.com/sear...UAJusFKA%3D%3D

Hello again! I bought the new oem replacement ring gear and will try to replace it. Have anyone replaced it here? Any tips with the heating process? It looks like its the correct ring gear but i have one question did Harley make another ring gear that is like say 1 mm bigger or smaller?

And would you replace the chain tensioner?

kinds regards Johan

Tensioner is fine. If it actually grooves in till rollers touch, that's as far as it will ever wear.

I would press it off in a press with the proper blocks and spacers. Hitting it with a MAPP gas torch would make a big difference. Propane is not enough local heat.

It's a press on. Not sure how much. Probably .003 which is a lot.

Not sure what you have. The video below shows him needing to weld it. That should have come with some interesting. Is it aftermarket?

This definitely is a job for someone with a big press and some experience with press fits and even a proper method of heating it evenly all over and not too hot. Our heavy maintenance people had electric devices for just that.

Few on YouTube. Look at them all. And be careful. I was rebuilding s five speed out of a Jeep and my son was helping me press the gear sets off. A bearing and gear set literally exploded off.

Your the man!!!

That clutch hub bearing is a huge ball bearing that only is used when you clutch. I thought you could see the bearings and race.

I remember mine since it only had oil on it being noisy. Don't remember shake but you are seeing a long way out. .0003 clearance would be noticeable that far out.

Good stuff; glad the replacement fit. However, I think a few tack welds would be good insurance; maybe at 12, 3,6 and 9 o'clock??
