I read through FM's info and they say to keep doing an auto tune until you see cells only changing by 5-7% then your done, they said it typically takes 3 auto tunes. You want to tune with the incrementally better tunes you get, not everything in one tune.

 

Good choice on the lifters. If there is any lash in the valve train, an oil change is not likely to make any difference because you have lifters that don't leak down.

 

Put a few more tanks of gas through the bike and did 2 long autotunes and it's running much better. Autotune has taken a lot of fuel out of the map and I reduced the accel enrichment by 10%, this helped the throttle response and its definitely making more power now.

The baffles in the pipes also helped a bunch. No leaks and it runs super smooth. I am not letting the RPM's get much below 2,500 and I am shifting near the mid 3,000's, much different from lugging it from 2K. The motor seems to be more happy around 3K now, just seems smoother and way more responsive. Doesn't seem to be any impact on gas mileage, I get about 175-185 miles mostly back roads before I am puckering for a gas station.

No valvetrain noise, but a lot more intake noise when near WOT. I like it.

Fuel Moto has really put together a nice cam upgrade kit and their service is second to none. No doubt they will get more business from me.

 

When you did your autotune sessions, did you modify the map FM set up for you?

 

That's the whole point. What FM sends is a base map...a starting point.

 

I made a copy of the FM map they sent me and tucked it away on my PC so I'll always have a copy. I made a modified version with -20% accel enrichment because at the colder temps the fuel was so much more than my stock tune, and it sounded really fat when it first started up. That turned out to be too much and -10% was good, so I autotuned with that file. Here's what the first autotune looked like. You can see it didn't add fuel anywhere, and around 3-3,500 it pulled quite a bit out. I'm not sure if a -10 is 10%, or 10 counts but it seems significant. Using Autotune is so simple once you do it once, and it does yield good results you can feel in the first few runs.

Problem is there are now a lot of cells where the adjacent cell has a much different value. I asked in the ECM/Tuning forum if anyone does map smoothing, but not much response yet except one guy that owns a dyno and doesn't have this problem.

Also wonder if the TPS (throttle position sensor) is supposed to be at 5 at idle, or if it needs to be recalibrated.
