Bagger with MR103 Cam
So I am getting a cam upgrade in my 2015 RGS and I have been looking at the thread with all the cam shoot outs. I am seriously leaning to the MR103.
I ride about 50% solo and 50% 2 up. I ride for the most part between 2500 and 4000rpm but do romp on the old girl every once and a while.
im looking for a cam that will give me low end grunt and power when switching lanes or already moving. I believe that’s a torque cam but I am not trying to sacrifice HP.
I have a high flow air intake, 2-1-2 head pipe and cobra 909 slips. I have the Power Vision stage 1 tune. The installers at Fuel Moto will use the PV to write something custom on their dyno so I’m not worried about the tune after the fact.
based on the info above am I making the right choice with the MR103 cam?

Short answer, yes. Probably one of the more overlooked cams in favor of similar performing cams of other makes.
That said, your exhaust probably isn't the greatest. And not the 212 part of it. I've never seen all that great of performance out of cobra slip ons. I know from personal experience the Rush slip ons perform great for a 212 system on a stage 2 103.
Exhaust and how it performs with the cam is every bit as important as the cam itself when it comes to performance and at what rpm range.

So when i put the 2-1-2 head pipe on I use the Screamin Eagle slips I had with the factory head pipe. Since they are not a spiral cut internally flow through muffler it sounded worst than dog ****. I have had the 909's in the past and I like the sound. They are a straight through design just with the spiral "louvers" i guess you'd call it, the exhaust note is tamed down and not sounded like an open header and raspy dog ****.

Dealerships installed 'em like crazy back before their issues with the EPA and their tuner because they performed well, were easy to tune, and sound great.. My '13 Heritage had them installed when the original owner did a stage 1 on it.

I think the MR103 cams would be a great choice. Looks like they make the bulk of and peak torque right in the 2500-4k RPM range you’re Looking at. Going off the fuel moto dyno sheet it’s over 100ft/lb from 2000rpm on up. Which is great for the roll on passing power at a cruising rpm which for most guys is 2200-3200rpm. Dyno chart looks very similar to the Woods 222, identical HP/ Tq numbers and even peak TQ at same RPM and very close to same peak HP rpm, both over 100ft/lb from 2k and up.. Which I’m sure as you’ve found the Woods 222 cams are very popular with the touring bikes.
here are the Fuelmoto dyno sheets...

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm just considering 2 different cams, the Woods 555 or the 777. The Mr 103 looks like a good cam as well but I think it says on S&S's website that it wasn't for touring bikes. I thought it was odd that they had that on there listing for that cam.

here is the description directly from S&S: “MR103 Camshaft Kit designed for '06 HD® Dyna and 2007-'16 big inch engines with intake and exhaust modifications. Designed as bolt-in cams for 103 CID engines with stock 9.7:1 compression ratio up to 10.5:1. Works well with stock, un-ported heads, but is great for S&S CNC ported heads. More power across the rpm range best results form 2500-5500 rpm.”

Don't know what the cam timing is on the CR 585 but you really can't go wrong with the MR 103 or the Woods 222. Both very good cams for bolt in on a 9.6:1 compression 103" motor... As for the slip ons for your build you might be better off with the louvered baffle and not the perforated.. it will help to smooth out the torque curve..
