Check the codes again, if it comes back, it could be what's causing the "No Start" You might have a broken wire..

On a 99 bike there should be a sensor under the small cover. IIRC in 2001 it was removed. If comparing to an EVO, it will look different but you should see a single screw and a wire going to a round plastics object and to a hole in the case.

You may have to go with a new module. I'd check the connections to it..

You may want to buy a compression tester.
