Thank you for all the suggestions! I have the heads off right now because I installed an S&S big block kit. Old pistons did not have excessive amounts of carbon build-up. However, the rear cylinder head had noticeably more carbon than the front head, but I did not see a pattern to it that would suggest valve issues. Both heads had build-up in the same areas. The rear head just had more.

The new pistons sure do look pretty and shiny

Man I thought I was bored...hopefully you took off the heads to do more than just clean them like Kirby said.

especially if going big bore,leaving a lot of power on the table with stock heads

I did decide to have the heads worked since I have everything apart right now and the money to do it. My heads are being decked about .035” and intake valves opened to 1.90. Resulting chambers will be 83cc and expecting a little over 195 psi compression.
