Can I start the bike without the gas tank installed?
Hey guys, just done a full top end rebuild, cams, heads etc. Its a 2002 CV40 carbed fatboy.
I have everything ready including rebuilt and jetted carb.... can I test run the motor before installing gas tank? Only because if somethings not right pulling the tank is a major PITA.
Whats the best way to get around the vacuum operated line from the carb to the petcock - just put a blank off nipple over the vacuum barb on the carb??
Thanks for any advice.

I was just going to run a long piece of fuel hose from the carb attached to the bottom of a appropriate sized funnel filled with some gas. Make sure it starts and runs for one minute and then shut it off.

I'm not yet decided on doing it because I don't really see any reason why there should be problems with the build... I just hate pulling the gas tank...

Put it all back and run it. Your last post sounds like you know what you are doing.

You would be better to just sit the tank loosely on the frame and hook up the gas line.
Or at least sit the tank on the bench next to the bike and hook a long piece of gas line hose with clamps between the tank and carb. I guess you would have to pull the diaphragm out of the vacuum petcock to let fuel flow.
And have fire extinguisher on hand just in case. You never know with a fresh start up, regardless of gas tank situation. Stuck floats, split lines, loose clamps, combined with a pinched wire or loose plug lead and woofah!
