What would you do? (Engine upgrades)
Want some advice on what y’all would do. I have been gathering up some take offs from some friends builds. Eventually I would like to do a 107” build with either woods 555 or 777 cams, along with head work. Now I started gathering up some take offs including jugs (96” bored to 103”) heads without valves or springs, and some screaming chicken 255 cams. Do I A) throw on the 103” jugs and 255 cams and keep my stock heads and run it for a year until I can get my stock jugs bored to 107 and have the other heads reworked. And get the other components needed for the build or B) keep running my stock 96” until I get all the take offs sent out and reworked and go from 96” to 107” in one shot? I get that I would be buying all gaskets twice but I got all the take offs for so cheap or free that the cost of gaskets isn’t going to effect my wallet to severely. Thank for any experience and knowledge y’all are willing to share with me.

2008 dyna low rider with 96” has screw-in eagle high flow intake, Rhine hart 2-1 and the sert (orange one that has the red light on it)currently sitting at almost 95tq and almost 75 hp though I never really look for hp as tq seems to be what I’m chasing after. The other reason for wanting to throw in the 103, stock heads and 255 cam is I’m pretty sure the sert will have a map for that. With the eventual 107 build I’m probably going with a different tuner

The OP will have to check fitment of new pistons, in torque plates, to the already bored 103" cylinders. JMHO but there are so many better cam options than the 255s; the do make some TQ but selling them on Ebay would be better choice. The stock '06 up heads are not terrible, certainly not on par with ported heads but not that bad. Why not bore to 107" now to insure proper piston fitment, clean up the stock heads with new guide seals and SERDI valve job, .030" head gasket and a set of S&S 570 cams? When funds are available, have the head castings ported, swap with the stock and retune. A dyno tune would be in order, no maps please. I don't know which SERT tuner the OP has but if it's the original, not a bad tuner but could be hard to find a tuner these days that can tune with it. Might be a good time to toss the SERT and go with the Powervision that so many tuners are using these days. Of course, this is JMHO.

That’s kinda the direction I had originally planned except I would just ride the stock setup until everything is in hand and ready for the 107” build. Sending out the 103” jugs and heads and have them matched to the cam I decide to go with. I’m not at all dissatisfied with my current setup with stage one. I just don’t know when to leave things alone! I picked up the 255 cam for cheap and I’m sure I can make a small profit on eBay to put towards the new upgrades. Guess I just figured why not throw on the jugs and cams as I’m only in it for about $100 at this time (forgot to mention the jugs came with the pistons as well but no rings) I just recently moved to SW Florida from Denver and I’m sure just the altitude change from 5300 feet to sea level will have a notable difference in the feel of the bike. Now I just need to get my bike down here! It’s still in Denver……
