There could be other reasons but I would be just speculating as there is nothing in the OP that might explain that. I am pretty sure that the oil loss was not related to spark plug choice.

Just correcting your reading comprehension. Hope someone does mine. I'd rather be corrected than letting a mistake go.

Agree and thanks for catching the error. I would say that is the first I have made this year but you have already caught at least one earlier this year.

I`m not a big fan of a leakdown test, unless there is a baseline leakdown established when engine is new or just broken in.

No argument here as I usually run leak down on a fresh build about 1K-2K to establish that baseline. I need to do it on the most recently built 98" motor that now has about 2K miles on it; just been too lazy.

FWIW.....

I did a leak down test on a used 2001 Springer w/9.8K miles, that I bought about 3 years ago, trying to diagnose an issue... it was F-100/98 (2%) & rear R-100/95 (5%).

For the hell of it, since I had a new leak down tester, I also tested my 2003 Heritage that I bought new, that now has 20K miles and a Harley 95" big bore kit... It was F- 100/98 (2%) and R- 100/98 (2%).

I was impressed with the results on both... I just didn't expect them to be that good..

Although neither is new, I now have a baseline on them... for the future..

Update for anyone interested.

To recap and answer some of the questions in the thread. When I got the bike back from the service department I checked the oil then and before the start of the trip. After that trip which was a total of 1800 miles I had the leak down test done. Since then we've done another trip of 3300 miles and the bike ran really well and the oil use was minimal, maybe a couple of ounces. I just had the 30K service done and ready for another trip.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll keep an eye on the oil usage and maybe have the leak down done again in a few thousand miles.
