Yikes, glad it was not worse like a complete bottom end blow the case off dropping all the oil and possibly causing an accident.

GL getting it sorted out

Relieved that all you have to do is replace the motor. It might be expensive, but it can be replaced, it’s only money. You, however, well, you know!
It’s better than the alternative

I would think the rod bearing went first.. did the Piston touch the head? Post up a pic of the combustion chamber...
Sorry to hear could've been worse..

If the rod bearing went, the motor should have knocked. It didn't. If that were the case the rear rod nub would have been up against the back side of the front rod. The nub is in front. Look at the picture of the crank in the cases (down is forward). If the bearing stuck, the remaining part of the rear rod would have jammed up against the front. Instead, the rear rod remains are in front of the rear rod. This means it was moving and as knocked holes in the case, it rotated backwards.

Had that happen to me on a 470 cubic engine aircraft engine - while in flight!
I was low and slow (bad and badder) when it happened. It was a twin engine aircraft and I was near an airstrip.
Winds blow, fires burn, crops fail and sh*t happens.
