Not there to see it, but generally if the pump had stuff go through it leaving scratch grooves on the body and gerotor.

Other than that, ask him, start a new thread and post a picture of it. Like to see it What else are you having done to it.

I saw both the oil pump and the cam plate, and neither one showed any scarring. I am no mechanic, but I know what witness marks and scarring can look like to the naked eye, but saw nothing that I would be concerned with. He did show me that the pinion shaft had a runout of 0.005" Since he is also replacing the cam plate, I wondered how he would know they needed replacement. Is replacing the cam plate and oil pump all because of the runout? Yes, I should have asked, but I just held it and said to myself...hmmmmmm

Oil pumps and cam plates...the most unnecessarily replaced items by far.
260° engine temps are nothing to be concerned about either. Hell, I regularly hit 300°.

lol we get it. You don’t like aftermarket oiling systems.

The MoCo says “normal” is 265 - 285 on a stock engine. When I brought my S home it was consistently running well above those parameters. After the new pump and plate it’s consistently under. Mission accomplished.

Plus cooler engines make more power soooooo....
