The 48 will wax the 555 in the all-important torque dept, and almost all 96" engine produce 90 hp, and 100 ft/lbs with a good pipe with the 48.
The intake closing number of the 555 clearly dictates that the optimezed compression be set at/near 10.3 cr.
You are at maybe 9.0.
A much BETTER reccomendation in the Wood line-up, would have been the TW-5-6.
Scott

I’ve heard so many options and opinions on cams that it’s ridiculous lol. I definitely don’t want a cam that will run out of steam by 4K RPMs. I don’t know anything about the 48s. Bob Wood recommended the TW-222s. FuelMoto with the TW-555s. My Indy with the S&S 585s or 583s or 551s. Everyone has a different opinion but I haven’t really had anyone chime in as far as first hand experience. So you’re saying I should call them guys and tell them to cancel the order and get the 48s?

I just recently put the TW-5-6 in my 103", 2013 FXDB along with a set of Hillside stage II heads that were originally ported for the CR 570 cam along with a .030" head gasket and a slight gear change.. just waiting for a dyno time to open near me.. The cam that Scott suggests is awesome..
The thing about Fuel Moto is they really don't mess with the TW-5-6.....

That sounds like it’ll be a fun ride. I’m probably gonna look into a big bore kit over winter maybe. My shop says they have sales for that **** so we’ll see

You see the 48 run in a lot of baggers because of the torque; heavier bike. The 48 will carry out to about 4500 rpms which easily covers the 2700-3000 range the OP rides in; torque on hand, just twist the wick. An earlier poster put it right; it's not that complicated.

I gotcha, so if my cam performs best from 3k to redline, and I’m cruising at 3k RPMs, will it still be “torquey” or will it not really kick in til 3500 or so? I’m not a professional when it comes to this, I just know I don’t want to give up bottom end to have a bunch of top end. I’d like to have it all if possible.

Therein lies your dilema; you can't "have it all". You need to spend some time looking at dyno charts. Check ou the attached chart of a 96" with the 48 cams; stock compression, Stage I; nice numbers with torque coming on 2600 and holding table top flat at above 100 past 45 rpms. IMHO, perfect for how you say you ride. The 48 is a not brainer but see if you can find comparable dyno charts with any of the other cams you are considering, i.e., Stage I with stock compression. Compare and choose; not complicated.

Wood 5-6 is an overlooked un-sung hero.
Old cam grind, and in not part of the cam-o-the-month-club crowd.
35 years in business, has alerted us to MANY things.
