03 road king i just bought back from my uncle. Bike has 50k on it. Im doing a full restoration. The bottom of the case is very wet. Notings leaking from the sides. My uncle wasn't sure if he spilled oil doing the last oil change. The motor mount is very caked with oil and dirt but dryer then the case. Hoping I don't have to tear down a relatively new motor. I did a 95 kit with cam and heads 14k ago on it. Is it common for the cases to leak on a early TC?

 

Short answer is no. The oil and gook at the motor mount is most likely from spilled oil during filter changes. Car wash and clean all the gunk away, stay away from wheel bearings and air intake, just use the wand to get the heavy gook off the case. After it drys, look for any leaks.

 

Forgot to mention. Bike is all apart didn't notice leak until after I started tearing it apart. No dripping just wet. So I can't start it to check for leaks. Im going to hand clean the whole bike and touch up the frame. Just don't want to put it all back together just to find out I have to pull the motor.

 

It's probably oil from the **** location of the oil filter.

Motors out NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO no its not from front. the dry part was over the lift so i couldnt see it.

Hey buddy, if you're wrenching on Harleys you're NEVER in a position to say what you're doing is worth more than the bike. It's always a losing circumstance.

Even restoring a rusty, clapped out Knucklehead. Imagine the costs of time, materials, and effort getting that bike worth $50K again? Motorcycles are NEVER an investment.
