Error codes 1999 road king classic
Bought the subject bike new in the fall of 1998. It has 75+K miles on it.Today it won't start. How do I check error codes? This fuel injection system is obsolete, and my local dealer won't work on anything older that 2003. I LOVE this bike, but is it dead?

How do ya get into the Harley Self Diagnosis? Search Fuel Moto. When ya got the error codes, look them up and see whats f'd up. LAST RESORT!!!! CONVERT TO A CARB. All ya need is the parts. OEM intake manifold andCV-40 carb. Ignition modual is plug n play (with the OEM carbed bike plugin harness) which may be obsolete. If so research NAMZ, and look for the harness they make or make yer own. A set of Pingle gas tank adapters and a petcock. I converted my 07 Dyna from EFI to a Mikuni HSR 42. So I know, YES it CAN BE DONE.

Howdy,
Yes, turns over. Yes, I can hear the fuel pump priming. No to even a hint of firing. Really, this is the first time I've had any trouble at all with this bike! 75+K miles....pretty good run I'd say. I did in fact try the "flashing engine light" error code and got 51....which apparently is not listed anywhere I can find. Heritage Harley in Lisle Illinois is picking it up Wednesday to give it a look. Hoping for some good news. Can't afford a new bike.

I looked at my factory manual for 1999 Roadking, specifically the trouble code chart. As you already know trouble code 51 is not listed 41 is. That one crankshaft position sensor. There is no 31 or 21 listed. I have over 100k on my 1999 Roadking and have got an education about this system. I had to the local dealer won’t work with it at all. This sensor plugs into a connector behind right floorboard at frame tube and engine. I have read that they go bad , but have not had that happen to me. That being said they are not too difficult to change. A manual is very helpful though.

Cam position sensor. I was just in a conversation on another forum about this very subject.
Is your ignition module the original?
The conclusion was, if one was to use the replacement Ign Module 32478-99 with the A B or C suffix used on the later models with out Cam Pos Sens, it does not need to see a signal from the Cam Pos Sensor. So I am under the impression that if you changed your Ign Module instead, you would not have that problem again. Tho the Cam Pos Sensor is much less costly to get you on the road again.
Any comments anyone?
