How'd this turn out?
Noise still there?
We load the lifter to .140".
Even cams with lifts north of .650" run quietly.

Yea, like not going WFO on the throttle before cranking the engine over.

Speaking of that, every since I blew up a gauge I crank the engine over a couple times first with the throttle open and the spark plug out, THEN I install the gauge. When I blew the gauge it was because the accelerator pump jacked some fuel into the intake and the hot engine auto-ignited that mixture on the first crank.

i left the compression releases connected

Ended up being
front 182
rear 180

The cold start tick I heard was an exhaust leak from the crossover pipe.

Dealer is saying the bike Is okay and won't tear it down until there's an issue that my warranty can actually address.

Default Same lifter noise

Came across this and sounds awfully familiar. Did fixing the exhaust leak fix the noise? I changed lifters on mine three times. Starts off quiet and after 200 miles the noise comes back. Cams have been removed and reinstalled twice, rocket lockers and still nothing. Mine sounds worse around 3000-3500+ rpm. Don’t mean to steal the thread but I’m about to go back to stock. Currently running the se 585 with s&s lifters with the se race double springs and perfect fit push rods

Those heavy springs could be the culprit; they can slam the valve back into the seat. OEM beehives would probably solve the problem.

even with 585 cams?? I see the behive springs from SE that are for up to .590 lift but the double springs is what they sold me. I agree they are too heavy for my application. I would happily put sticks back on but what’s the max lift for the stock springs?

585s are about max but there's plenty of the 585s running with the stock behives.

think so? I don’t want to float the valves. I guess I could through them in and if that doesn’t work, just put stock back in

I have run .600" lift cams on OEM springs and rockers in my '02FLHT (110HP/124TQ) with no issues and never babied that bike. Loved showing tail lights to the 114" M8s. I ran .590" lift cams in that same bike without trimming the main boss bearing and the bottom of the lifter block castings; clearance was .030". However, when I replace those cams with the .600" lift cams, I did need to clear both areas; not an issue with the later models.
