Default Taller windshield for 2014

I have the 2014 TG and I do not like the short windshield. It may work great with the redesigned fairing, but I'm old school and believe a taller windshield gives better protection. I'm thinking on getting a taller one (about eye level like the stock ones on all my past bikes) so I can duck down in the rain and look over it at night etc.
Has anyone installed a taller windshield and how do you like it? Any difference?
I know some riders like real short windshields because it looks cool. I don't want cool, I want protection. What are some of your thoughts.

I bought a 12" for mine. With my hammock seat and being tall anyway, the stock shield hits me right in the throat.

Same here, on my '14 Limited I changed from the stock 10" to the same HD 12". I like being able to ride hunched over a bit and look through the top couple inches of the windshield or straighten up and be a couple inches over it. It's just what I've gotten used to over the years and after being hit by every flying object in existence over many years, I like the setup like this. Doesn't seem to affect the vented air flow. I still feel the air stream about at the very top of my helmet.

Funny, wife and I took off he stock windshields and put 6" and 8" units on. You don't have to be 'behind' the windshield for it to do it's job. I haven't been hit in the face with a bug, or got rain on me, the short shields blow it up and over.

Hapbob, can I suggest respectfully that you take delivery and ride that scoot a little before you drop a bunch of bucks on stuff. . . . . or not.

I'm 6'4" i have the 10" on my 2014 street Glide. What a difference much better, the stock is worth less. I also have 12.5 wild ones no problem with my hand s getting to cold, the shield does its job.

I hope this helps

Default Hey

Hey Screwball
I plan on riding a bit before making the move on stuff...I am hoping I will need less stuff with this Trike than with the other Harleys I've had. Delivery day after tomorrow...but the riding part will be awhile...-11 this A.M. -15 tomorrow...record low for this date? I need to move where they have that global warming stuff.
Thanks
Hap

Not sure how you do it, Screwball, but I've been hit many times with a bug and always get rain on me with the std 12" windshield - not as much as I would with a lower shield though. If I'm riding over 30mph then you're right, very little rain, but all the rain that hits the windshield then travels up and off the top right in my face. Can't be helped it's the nature of rain. Then below 30 mph there's no way to stay dry with a short windshield. Even tall shields are suppose to blow it up and over.
Short of completely enclosing the bike, you're going to bet wet no matter how high or short your windshield is. That's just one of the perks of riding a motorcycle.

My preference is still with a higher shield. Besides I need the room for my village sticker, AMA decal, Harley decal, USMC decal, police benevolent fund donation sticker, family stick figure decals, parking permit sticker, and last but not least, my "I hart goldens" sticker.

I agree with you on riding the bike before adding anything.

I received a ClearView today. Will write my two cents worth Saturday. Large smoked should be 1 1/2 inches taller with recurve.

Installed new Clear View windshield today. Left the blue wrap on because Craig a C/V told me I could return if was not compatible with wind shield pouches. If you look at the black line on the blue wrap this is a tracing of the old windshield height and width.

This is a large smoked shield. I sit 6'2" and wear a Scorpion 900 helmet and noted the following:

1. With the stock shield experienced helmet buffeting at all speeds with cross winds collapsing air pocket. C/V stopped this buffeting. With a 10 mph crosswind and the vent open no buffeting with the vent closed slight buffeting.

2. Smoked is the perfect tint easy to look thru or over.

3. Pouches. With no pouches vented air to run pretty much up the windshield. With pouches caused vented air to be a little more in your face to throat area. With the C/V shield the air stream moved to the upper chest area but controls were not compromised. The button must be actuated by feel. Pouches seem more accessible with more tilt and easier to see what is in them.

4. Recurve. Seems to do the job and moves air up and over head.

Note: you can also see stock profile in this picture.

5. Customer service. Was sent a note with my order confirmation that shield would ship in 7 to 12 working days. After 15 working days I called and was told it would be two more days. When asked if credit dared had been run was told yes day of order. I think that there should be a little better line of communication with the customer.

I think it is a keeper. IMHO!
