Default Cleaning the wheels on the 14TG

I have a question about cleaning and protecting the wheels on the 14TG. When I was looking at the bike at the dealer I was told they are clear coated and should be treated like a painted surface. I have been told since then that they are "raw" aluminum and can be a real issue to keep clean. What are folks doing to clean and care for the wheels?

I just use Meguiar's Quick Detail and a microfiber cloth. Seems to work well. I don't think the wheels are clear coated but I'm not sure...

Wheels are not clear coated. Use detail spray most of the time works well. Did get some stains from road salt had to use metal polish to clean it.

I think those are the same wheels they use on the 09-13 TGs. Be very careful not to leave water on them after riding in the rain or washing the trike. If you do not remove the water stains in a day or so, it will lead to permanent spots. I made that mistake on my 09 TG and it ruined the rims.

Did you buy your 14 TG at Thunder Tower in Columbia? I think I recognize the background in your Avatar.

I at times use a product called Never Dull which can be purchased at a Wal Mart.

Would polishing compound be too abrasive?

Hi Bubba
You are right... That is Thunder Tower. That is were I bought my 2014 TG. They were great to work with and made trading my 011 Road King Classic easy. I was really pleased with the deal I got as well as how I was treated. Nothing but good things to say about the sales group and the service team.
Are you from this area? I am in Chapin.

I thought it looked familiar. I've had more than my share of work done there, but I prefer Harley Haven. Yeah, I was raised in Bamberg (50 miles south of Columbia). My mother is in a nursing home about 15 miles from Thunder Tower. I ride down to check on her every month. I have family in ST. Matthews and Charlestown. If all goes well I'll be moving back down there in 2 years when my kid goes to college.

A moderate solution of Simple Green. Takes off all the gook, and has never damaged any of my wheels.
