Cleaning the wheels on the 14TG
#21
I have a question about cleaning and protecting the wheels on the 14TG. When I was looking at the bike at the dealer I was told they are clear coated and should be treated like a painted surface. I have been told since then that they are "raw" aluminum and can be a real issue to keep clean. What are folks doing to clean and care for the wheels?

Good idea! I saw some wheels that had been powder coated black with silver(chrome?) spokes last fall. The look really popped. I'll bet that they're a lot easier to care for.

Those Hydrographics look amazing Kevin,
But, I needed to get at least my front wheel off the TG, The alloy was a mess, I use my bike in all weathers so it has to be fairly easy to clean, and those wheels are certainly not that,
So a complete strip down of the wheel remove all the corrosion, and off to the painters, where he two pack sprayed the complete wheel,
While I went to work on the discs (rotors) removed the rust etc, masked off and sprayed with etching primer, made a little tool to fit into my drill, and polished the st/steel bobbins,
Assemble, and I'll fit to the bike today, well, that has to be easier to clean,
Next job will be be the rear wheels, I re polished those, and waxed them, and still the water marks show, beyond me why the Mo Co didn't clear coat them in the first place,

Have been playing with the graphics a bit on different parts (not wheels). All done in satin black base and covered in satin clear (all powder coat)

That looks really good. We've been testing the same film for a couple of months now.
With the clear powder it is impervious to normal wear and tear. But we are still experimenting with different with different temps to get the highest resistance to damage from sharp impact (rock dings etc.).
