Default 2014 oil temp

I haven't seen any oil temps reported on the new 14's.I was wondering if anyone with a 14 has checked to see what the oil temp is.I no it's cold out now,but maybe someone from a warmer state might of checked.

Arnie, You can drive yourself crazy watching your oil temperature. As long as you're moving your engine's being cooled some. If you're not moving fast it's not producing a lot of heat either. Your bike came with synthetic oil from the factory, which is a good thing as synthetic oil tolerates heat much better that conventional oil. I started playing with Dad's lawn mower engine when I was about 8 and never quit. Yet I've never seen an engine die from an oil related failure. Keep your oil changed regularly and enjoy the ride

In other words if an engine running over 300* oil temp will run just as long as one running 220*????

I thought only CVO bikes came with synthetic.

I was just curious on how much the waterhead might have on cooling the oil.I was just trying to get an idea on the oil temps with the wethead & not having an oil cooler.I only know of two people with a new 14,& neither have checked to see.One of them told me that sense the radiant heat was less he just assumed the oil would be too.I'm not sure on how all this works together.I just figured maybe someone with one, might have stuck a temp gauge in the oil filler after it was hot to see what the oil temp was.Phu cat,i have an oil emp gauge on my 11.When i first got the trike new,it would run up around 300deg.I did some mods & it runs around 250-260 out in the western states.Around where i live it runs around 220-230.Without the gauge i wouldn't of known what mods worked or didn't.But like you said,it can drive you crazy looking at it all the time.

I mentioned here and on the 'other' trike board, the worst thing I did to our '09 and '11 trikes was to install dash mount oil temperature gages. You will spend a lot of very enjoyable time riding with one eye on the temp gage. Not like there is anything you can do short of stopping. In nearly 50 years on Harleys I haven't heard of any instances where engines failed because of oil heat. I live on the desert in So. Cal. where 100+* days are very common and haven't had any problems. Ride it and enjoy it.

Just use it like the water temp gauge in the auto. Use it as an indicator of a problem. Myself, I don't trust Idiot lights, I prefer gauges to mind an expensive piece of machinery.
The water cooled will run less oil temp. Most of the oil heating was coming from the head area as the oil circulated over the head.
Harley is betting by the wet head they will be able to cure everything. It still may need some help from an external oil cooler. All to be proven out whether or not it will need to be added. I hope Harley is correct !

OK if you want to hear from a 2014 limited i can give you all kinds of info...I have had an engine oil temp gauge on my new bike since oct 1 (purchased 8-31-13) There are huge differences in temp while riding with others the have oil temp gauges and i have put a power vision cable on mine and have been able to use my friends PV and compare head temps as we ride also.........Harley has made some great changes to this bike it is awesome....temps are way lower and more steady.faster to recover when it does get higher( the highest oil temp i have seen is 235 going up a very steep mountain pass in the 80s outside temp) kudos to the MoCo........my bike runs mostly around 190-200 will go to 230 but recovers fast.......head temps compared with a 2009 103 was 205 -256 one stop at 60 degrees outside temp and second stop 232- 295 at around 75 outside temp.......... there are huge differences..........have at guys...just my 2 cents worth
