I used to carry two primus fuel bottles, then i figured that it would only get me about 15 miles and I would stop around 150 miles to stretch my legs and refuel, so I quit.

We just stop every 100 to 110 miles, stretch our legs and get gas. Works good for us.

Why would you want to carry a potential bomb around with you for?
Not even mentioning you have a Gas gauge, and a trip meter.

Way back in the 2 wheeled days my wife had a very custom Sportster. It wouldn't hold enough gas to get between Newberry Springs Ca and Needles Ca. on the way to Laughlin Nv for the Laughlin River Run. I would carry a 1 gal can of gas (empty) and fill up the bikes at Newberry and the can. Around Ludlow Ca. we'd pull off the road and add the additional gallon. She'd be on fumes at Newberry, but she can say she rode a Sportster from Pasadena Ca. to Laughlin Nv for the rally. 2 years later she got a Nightrain for our anniversary and I dumped the gas can. Didn't feel good about having a Molotov cocktail strapped to my fender.

Story... sometimes I like to just ride and get lost in the mountains. Near the Blue Ridge Parkway one year I was getting very low and about ran out. I stopped at a farm house, they were in the yard, and asked how far for a station... the guy ponied up a gal of gas for me and handed me a beer. An hour later he told me where the station was... 20 miles down the road.

Thought about taking a can of gas with me when I do that but I wouldn't have met this family... real nice people.

Like others said.... get low, find a station or a farmer.... No need to carry the extra weight.

Of course, everyone that replies saying there is no need to carry gas will run out next week.

When on our trip this last summer, in Idaho, we bought a 2 gallon gas can and strapped it to the TP rack. Thought there might be some stretches that we would be riding that would be further than the tank would carry us.

Never used it.
