Default front tire

Wifes cousin has a 2009 with 20000 miles and is getting his 4th front tire! Anybody else going through tires this fast? I have 12000 on my 2010 and still have lots of meat left. Guess l'm just getting lucky.

Something wrong with Cuz's ride. My last front tire went on at 18K miles. Go to the darkside and get a rear tire, mount it backwards on the front. That will extend the life of the tire by LOTS. It isn't unsafe as the rear tire structure is made to withstand the excess pressures of acceleration. A front tire is structured to withstand the pressures of braking. If you put the rear tire on the front and reverse it, the breaking pressures will comply with the directional structure of the tire.

WTF? Didn't understand a thing about your post... Are you talking about putting a rear tire from a 2-wheeler on the front or a rear tire from a car, or a rear tire from a TG?

Bubba,

He was talking about putting a rear from a two wheeler on the front. The rear tire starts out with an extra tred depth. If you mount it backwards, it helps with braking pressures. Goldwing trikes do it all the time.

I ran a rear tire mounted backwards on my 08 Harley Lehman trike and got 20,000 miles on it which was the same as what I got on the original front tire. I am running an IRC Wild Flare on the front and have 16,000 miles on it and will get at least another 4,000. It comes with 9/32 of tread and is a fairly soft compound. It really corners well. If I could find a car tire that would fit on the front, I would love to try it as I think it would work better than a motorcycle tire. Unfortunately the only one I can find is made by Coker for antique cars. I am not sure how trust worthy it would be on a bike and it is fairly expensive. I think a 165R16 would work on the front just a hard size to find.

I replaced my front tire with the original equipment, the first one lasted 21,000. I saw no reason to put on a different kind or brand.
