Shift linkage destroyed....

I know Taylor and his buddy that had the problem. It's not the shift rod with the hemi joint he is talking about. Both had the splined unit that goes through the engine cases strip out. The part that the shifter pegs attach to. You can step on the shifter bet but the bike will not change gear because the upright that the rod attaches to is striped out.

I know from experience that one should take zip ties and electrical tape with them if they plan on traveling far from home with the stock linkage. A few years ago one of the guys in the group my dad and I was in had his linkage come apart, the cheap ball end wore out and wouldn't stay in the socket due to all the slop. The bad part was we were in Colorado 1,800 miles from home and 150 miles from the nearest HD dealer. I lent the guy my bike to go to a Home Depot right down the street and get zip ties to patch it up. As luck would have it the attendant at the gas station we were at knew a guy who had a lot of HD parts laying around. He happened to have exactly what we needed to get going again and gave it to the guy because he had quite a few that were removed from other bikes laying around.
