HK Radio, XM, and backlight complaint
I have the '12 TG, and when I flipped on the HK radio, noticed I had XM as an option. I checked out the unique radio ID, called the XM call center, and after giving them another small pile of money, I now have XM/Sirius radio pumping out the speakers.
I keep reading where XM is an add-on to the HK units. Does anyone know if XM is now standard? I had a Garmin Zumo 665 installed before I took delivery. The write-up on that says it can provide XM reception. Is that now the source of my XM radio signal, or is it the standard HK radio? I'm confused.
The XM works fine even if the Garmin is packed away in the TourPak. Did they install a receiver in the fairing when I had my Garmin installed? Or is it in the standard HK receiver?
BTW, the contrast on the radio read-out is crap. Using the adjustment feature to change the contrast only seems to lighten or darken the whole affair without any impact on contrast. My radio is barely legible at night. I have found a company that will change your backlight LEDs and they offer several colors (www.ironcrossaudio.com), but they want $175 for that job. Seems pricey, but I am sure changing out the LEDs is not a quick and easy job. I don't feel like ripping out the radio to send it to them, either.

I would bet that the XM is because of the Zumo 665. It comes with an XM Module. I got the 660 and had to get the XM seperate because I didn't realize that the 665 would give me XM through the HK. I was under the impression that the XM from the Zumo would only work through the Zumo and I didn't want it all tied together, or have to have the Zumo on to have XM. Had I known that the 665 would give me XM even when the Zumo was not connected, I would have went with it, as the 665 is 799.95 and the Zumo 660 is 649.95 and the XM Module is 499.95. Could have saveda buck if I had done more research.
