What size rear tire on front?

The rear tire has a heavier weight load & deeper tread for longer wear. Additionally if you look at a front tire compared to the rear tire when both are brand new, the front tire is crowned more for a 2 wheel bike to aid in handling. The rear tire has a flatter profile to give you more contact on the road surface.
Unfortunately there are no front tires specifically made with a flatter profile for trike as of yet and may never be made. For years now there are alot of Goldwing trike riders who mount a rear tire in reverse of the direction arrow on the front of theyre trikes and get 20-30k miles of wear.
I got 12k out of the original front tire Dunlop D402 and 15k out of one the front Dunlop E3 I tried. ( Had one E3 that had a issue @ 5k miles and had to replace it )

TK your right, if you mount a rear tire on the front it has to be mounted in reverse with most tires. However, If you find a rear tire made by a tire company that has a dual direction arrow you can mount that tire in either direction
The MU85 I currently have on is a 140 size tire. I would recommend staying with the rear 130 size tire MT90 due to the clearance inside the front fender. With the tire flex when pushing the trike in a curve, I get a very slight rub on the inside lip of the fender. It leaves no mark on the tire but it will be a little un-nerving when you hear it. I have learned to live with it

On the Goldwings, the OEM tire is a radial tire and does not fair well on the trike ( doesn't do real good on the two wheeler) ..only about 10,000 miles and they are toast. On the GW trikes most have gone to a Michelin Pilot Active or Bridgestone Battle Axe rear bias ply tire made for the sport touring motorcycle..being a bias ply ( like our OEM tire) they are getting double the mileage on the front tire....20,000 miles is about the norm...on ours and theirs...
As for reverse mounting, the tire being designed for the rear of the motorcycle, mounting in reverse on the front allows better dispersion of water and helps in breaking.....a Michelin rep wrote to one of the members on the wing site and gave a better explanation of this....
As for a wider tire, maybe the old VW tire like we ran back in the day?
