Question Noisy lifter........

I've got a noisy lifter(s) when starting cold. Goes away after about 20 seconds. Had it about the last 1000(?) miles. Anything to be concerned about? Is there an additive that would stop the ticking? I'm running Mobil1 20w-50. Got 8500 total miles on trike.

Mine are a little noisy when it's on the warm side. I never noticed until I rode one day without the MP3 player blasting!

I just turned the stereo back on, I think they are all a little noisy except for the people that change CAMS and go with aftermarket lifters. If it is not excessive I would not be concerned!

Mine seem to be a little ticky when I am in 6th gear...sometimes I feel like the ticks are the engine coming apart. I am more use to the goldwing sound, so never had a V-twin before. I just had a my 1000 mile service. Maybe I should take it back and ask them to test drive it in 6th gear. I am getting my rear wheels upgraded to the chrome ones next week. Am going to ask them to check it out when the trike is in then.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it seems to be getting worse. One of the reasons I've gone away from using HD lifters in my engines is the crappy quality. When I did the 95" build on my 06 I installed a new set of HD lifters and after about 20,000 miles one started to bleed down after it sat for a day. I installed Head Quarters black op lifters in both mine and my dads Triglides this winter when we did the cams and I just replaced the lifters in my 06.

At about 10K mine started to get real noisy when starting cold and also a few times when stopped after a 100 miles or so and then restarted. Lifters were definitely leaking down and the dealer replaced all the lifters under warranty without a question. Of course they were replaced with stock lifters so who knows how long they will last. Hopefully, as long as I own it. At 67 years old I don't know how many more new bikes I will buy but if there is another new one I'm not sure what it will be.

What RPM and speed are you running in 6th gear?

at about 55 or so. I have heard others say not to go to 6th unless you are at 65 or higher. But since my TG is 2011 and has the 30 tooth, I felt it would work at 55 or so....am I wrong? I think the RPM is near 2200, if I remember correctly.

I'd try not to go any lower than 2,500 unless your on a dead flat road and not going to accelerate. Its hard on the bottom end and could shift the crank.
