Default great heat reduction mod

Took the louvers out of the lowers today. What a difference!Somewhat of a pain to remove but someone in the touring form did it so I tried it.Two things happened, much much more air around the motor and my legs and much much cooler even at low speed.

The second thing I noticed was a real reduction in the buffeting from the air blowing up from the lowers and hitting me on the way by.The rake of the TG and the resistance of the louvers even wide open on the lowers made for bigtime helmet buffeting.

This is greatly reduced. We need to find away to get them on and off quickly.

Try it,it works

Works on my conversion too. I think several guys here do this or have tried it.

TK... when putting them back on make sure the hinge bolt is tight. If not, the doors will vibrate (walk) closed. It takes a bit more tightening than most may realize. So, bring the wrench with you on your first few rides or you will be opening the doors at every stop.

Maybe the Wiz could develop a way to get them on and off without loosening up everything. My louvers walk closed no matter how tight the bolt is.Couldn't we just cut the slot and slip them off easier?I was amazed at the benefit.I'll bet HD does not know how much they restrict even when open.

thanks in advance,
T K

Isn't it really cold in the winter? I am spoiled with my feet being protected when it is cold out.

I wouldn't ride without them. They provide alot of protection.

Just the adjustable doors were removed, not the entire lower. Isn't there an old thread where this was discussed in length?

Took them all apart today and ground off about 1/3 of that stem that goes in the slot on the upper part of the louver. What that did will let me remove the louver without loosening the screws in the back of the lower.

Though it was nice here today I put the louvers back in cause I froze last night without them.It is amazing the amount of difference between having them wide open and then removed.

I've had them off since last spring. If my harness boots, wool socks, and leather chaps don't help this winter, I'll put the louvers back on.

Default Bungee Cord

Just took a couple of bungee cords and tied the lower doors open.

Will feel good to close them in a few weeks!
